Lotus Festival

Well it was an exciting weekend at the BCT. We were thrilled to act as one of the venues for Bloomington's own Lotus Festival, showcasing international music and art. We hosted three music groups on our stage on Thursday, three Friday, and three more on Saturday. There were long lines waiting to get in, as the BCT filled up quickly with eager audience members. But everyone rotated through, freeing up seats, and the lines moved efficiently. As house managers, we tried to get everyone in as quickly as we could! It seemed everyone had a great time overall. During the last act on Saturday night, we even had some dancers! A few photos & videos I took below... forgive the poor video skills.... --Sarah

We had a treat watching the installation from our office windows!

BCT Unearthed!

BCT Program Associate Patrick Davey with his new buddies.

As the Buskirk-Chumley Theater progresses with its renovations, something wicked this way comes...the hellmouth beneath the BCT opened, unleashing frightening, bloodthirsty, terrifying...decorations! AAAAHHHH!!!

The 2008 Dark Carnival Film Festival invaded the Buskirk this past weekend for its events, including screenings, a terrifyingly seductive fashion show and special guest stars of horror fame.

For more sights and frights, visit Dark Carnival on MySpace if you dare!

Fashion+Function+Art

The Buskirk-Chumley will be holding its annual fundraising event, Fashion+Function+Art this October 23rd at 7pm.

Downtown retailers will be showing their fashions, and local 'celebrities' will be strutting their stuff down the runway. Do you know any local celebrities that should be working the runway? People who are on the cutting edge of today's fashion or have a following that rivals Elvis? Email suggestions (with contact info) to info@buskirkchumley.org.

Tickets for FFA are $15 general admission and $10 student.

BCT “razes” the roof

Thanks to the responsible property ownership of the City of Bloomington, the Buskirk-Chumley Theater is undergoing some roofing and weatherization improvements this summer. Brandt Construction started late June on some renovations to the roof. Many will have noticed by now that scaffolding has gone up hiding much of the iconic front façade and that the much loved INDIANA marquee has been hauled away to get some TLC.

But don't despair!

Shows will continue regularly, and be sure to visit your newly weather-tight Theater in the next season for some great new shows.

Did you see Soul Revue?!!??

The AAAI Soul Revue was this weekend. Did you go to see it? I happened to be working concessions, and now I feel lucky I did. They put on a great show- big lights, big stage, big performance. They not only sang some of the best soul music, they sang it well.

I have to say, I will be back to the Soul Revue again in the fall.

BCT Memories

Hot dates in the balcony, the first time you saw a life-changing film... The history of the Indiana Theatre is the history of the town, of the staff and audiences who gave the movies meaning. We invite you to add your own memories, large and small to give future generations of the day-to-day life of the downtown theater.

Today's great show is tomorrow's history. Arlo Guthrie, Regina Spektor, Frog and Toad...what shows and memories stand out in your mind?

Okkervil River coming April 7

Okkervil River has a unique sound that anybody can enjoy, and we're super excited to have them here in B-town! Preview them on MySpace.

Combining folk-rock inspirations and alternative rock sways, Okkervil River creates a particular visionary sound, strongly founded on dark and profound lyrics and on chaotic visions of patterned sound compounds. Their latest release, "The Stage Names," received wide critical acclaim with Pitchfork proclaiming it, "without doubt one of the year's best," and Harp Magazine naming "The Stage Names" the best release of 2007.
